Acts.13.13

From Paphos, Paul and company put out to sea, sailing on to Perga in Pamphylia. That's where John called it quits and went back to Jerusalem.

From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem.

Now when Paul and his party set sail from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; and John, departing from them, returned to Jerusalem.

Now Paul and those with him left Paphos by ship for Pamphylia, landing at the port town of Perga. There John Mark left them and returned to Jerusalem.

From Perga the rest of them traveled on to Antioch in Pisidia. On the Sabbath they went to the meeting place and took their places.

From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat down.

But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.

But Barnabas and Paul traveled inland to Antioch of Pisidia. On the Sabbath they went to the synagogue for the services.

After the reading of the Scriptures--God's Law and the Prophets--the president of the meeting asked them, "Friends, do you have anything you want to say? A word of encouragement, perhaps?"

After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue rulers sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak."

And after the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on."

After the usual readings from the books of Moses and from the Prophets, those in charge of the service sent them this message: "Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for us, come and give it!"

Paul stood up, paused and took a deep breath, then said, "Fellow Israelites and friends of God, listen.

Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: "Men of Israel and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me!

Then Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen:

So Paul stood, lifted his hand to quiet them, and started speaking. "People of Israel," he said, "and you devout Gentiles who fear the God of Israel, listen to me.

God took a special interest in our ancestors, pulled our people who were beaten down in Egyptian exile to their feet, and led them out of there in grand style.

The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers; he made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt, with mighty power he led them out of that country,

He took good care of them for nearly forty years in that godforsaken wilderness

Now for a time of about forty years He put up with their ways in the wilderness.

and then, having wiped out seven enemies who stood in the way, gave them the land of Canaan for their very own--

And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed their land to them by allotment.

a span in all of about four hundred fifty years. "Up to the time of Samuel the prophet, God provided judges to lead them.

God removed him from office and put King David in his place, with this commendation: "I've searched the land and found this David, son of Jesse. He's a man whose heart beats to my heart, a man who will do what I tell him.'

After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'

And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, "I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.'

But God removed him from the kingship and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, 'David son of Jesse is a man after my own heart, for he will do everything I want him to.'

"From out of David's descendants God produced a Savior for Israel, Jesus, exactly as he promised--

"From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.

From this man's seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior--Jesus--

"And it is one of King David's descendants, Jesus, who is God's promised Savior of Israel!

but only after John had thoroughly alerted the people to his arrival by preparing them for a total life-change.

Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel.

But before he came, John the Baptist preached the need for everyone in Israel to turn from sin and turn to God and be baptized.

As John was finishing up his work, he said, "Did you think I was the One? No, I'm not the One. But the One you've been waiting for all these years is just around the corner, about to appear. And I'm about to disappear.'

As John was completing his work, he said: 'Who do you think I am? I am not that one. No, but he is coming after me, whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.'

And as John was finishing his course, he said, "Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.'

As John was finishing his ministry he asked, 'Do you think I am the Messiah? No! But he is coming soon--and I am not even worthy to be his slave. '

"Dear brothers and sisters, children of Abraham, and friends of God, this message of salvation has been precisely targeted to you.

"Brothers, children of Abraham, and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.

"Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent.

"Brothers--you sons of Abraham, and also all of you devout Gentiles who fear the God of Israel--this salvation is for us!

Acts.13.27

The citizens and rulers in Jerusalem didn't recognize who he was and condemned him to death.

Acts.13.27

The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath.

For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him.

The people in Jerusalem and their leaders fulfilled prophecy by condemning Jesus to death. They didn't recognize him or realize that he is the one the prophets had written about, though they hear the prophets' words read every Sabbath.

They couldn't find a good reason, but demanded that Pilate execute him anyway.

Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed.

And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death.

Acts.13.28

They found no just cause to execute him, but they asked Pilate to have him killed anyway.

They did just what the prophets said they would do, but had no idea they were following to the letter the script of the prophets, even though those same prophets are read every Sabbath in their meeting places. "After they had done everything the prophets said they would do, they took him down from the cross and buried him.

When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

"When they had fulfilled all the prophecies concerning his death, they took him down from the cross and placed him in a tomb.

There is no disputing that--he appeared over and over again many times and places to those who had known him well in the Galilean years, and these same people continue to give witness that he is alive.

and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people.

He was seen for many days by those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses to the people.

And he appeared over a period of many days to those who had gone with him from Galilee to Jerusalem--these are his witnesses to the people of Israel.

"And we're here today bringing you good news: the Message that what God promised the fathers

"We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers

And we declare to you glad tidings--that promise which was made to the fathers.

"And now Barnabas and I are here to bring you this Good News. God's promise to our ancestors has come true in our own time,

has come true for the children--for us! He raised Jesus, exactly as described in the second Psalm: My Son! My very own Son! Today I celebrate you!

he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: "'You are my Son; today I have become your Father. '

God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm: "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.'

in that God raised Jesus. This is what the second psalm is talking about when it says concerning Jesus, 'You are my Son. Today I have become your Father. '

"When he raised him from the dead, he did it for good--no going back to that rot and decay for him. That's why Isaiah said, "I'll give to all of you David's guaranteed blessings.'

The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: "'I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.'

And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, He has spoken thus: "I will give you the sure mercies of David.'

For God had promised to raise him from the dead, never again to die. This is stated in the Scripture that says, 'I will give you the sacred blessings I promised to David.'

So also the psalmist's prayer: "You'll never let your Holy One see death's rot and decay.'

So it is stated elsewhere: "'You will not let your Holy One see decay.'

Therefore He also says in another Psalm: "You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.'

Another psalm explains more fully, saying, 'You will not allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.'

"David, of course, having completed the work God set out for him, has been in the grave, dust and ashes, a long time now.

"For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed.

"For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;

Now this is not a reference to David, for after David had served his generation according to the will of God, he died and was buried, and his body decayed.

Acts.13.37

But the One God raised up--no dust and ashes for him!

But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.

but He whom God raised up saw no corruption.

Acts.13.37

No, it was a reference to someone else--someone whom God raised and whose body did not decay.

Acts.13.38

I want you to know, my very dear friends, that it is on account of this resurrected Jesus that the forgiveness of your sins can be promised.

"Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.

Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins;

"Brothers, listen! In this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.

Acts.13.39

He accomplishes, in those who believe, everything that the Law of Moses could never make good on. But everyone who believes in this raised-up Jesus is declared good and right and whole before God.

Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.

and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

Everyone who believes in him is freed from all guilt and declared right with God--something the Jewish law could never do.

"Don't take this lightly. You don't want the prophet's sermon to describe you:

Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you:

Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets come upon you:

Be careful! Don't let the prophets' words apply to you. For they said,

Watch out, cynics; Look hard--watch your world fall to pieces. I'm doing something right before your eyes That you won't believe, though it's staring you in the face."

"'Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish, for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe, even if someone told you.'"

"Behold, you despisers, Marvel and perish! For I work a work in your days, A work which you will by no means believe, Though one were to declare it to you."'

'Look, you mockers, be amazed and die! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn't believe even if someone told you about it.'"
