The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

Dear Theophilus: In my first book I told you about everything Jesus began to do and teach

until the day he said good-bye to the apostles, the ones he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and was taken up to heaven.

until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,

After his death, he presented himself alive to them in many different settings over a period of forty days. In face-to-face meetings, he talked to them about things concerning the kingdom of God.

After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.

During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time and proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. On these occasions he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.

Acts.1.4

As they met and ate meals together, he told them that they were on no account to leave Jerusalem but "must wait for what the Father promised: the promise you heard from me.

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me;

In one of these meetings as he was eating a meal with them, he told them, "Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you what he promised. Remember, I have told you about this before.

John baptized in water; you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit. And soon."

When they were together for the last time they asked, "Master, are you going to restore the kingdom to Israel now? Is this the time?"

So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"

Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"

When the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, "Lord, are you going to free Israel now and restore our kingdom?"

He told them, "You don't get to know the time. Timing is the Father's business.

He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

Acts.1.7

And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.

Acts.1.7

"The Father sets those dates," he replied, "and they are not for you to know.

Acts.1.8

What you'll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world."

Acts.1.8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere--in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Acts.1.9

These were his last words. As they watched, he was taken up and disappeared in a cloud.

After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

It was not long after he said this that he was taken up into the sky while they were watching, and he disappeared into a cloud.

They stood there, staring into the empty sky. Suddenly two men appeared--in white robes!

They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.

And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,

As they were straining their eyes to see him, two white-robed men suddenly stood there among them.

Acts.1.11

They said, "You Galileans!-why do you just stand here looking up at an empty sky? This very Jesus who was taken up from among you to heaven will come as certainly--and mysteriously--as he left."

"Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing here staring at the sky? Jesus has been taken away from you into heaven. And someday, just as you saw him go, he will return!"

So they left the mountain called Olives and returned to Jerusalem. It was a little over half a mile.

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day's walk from the city.

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.

The apostles were at the Mount of Olives when this happened, so they walked the half mile back to Jerusalem.

They went to the upper room they had been using as a meeting place: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James, son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, Judas, son of James.

When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.

And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James.

Then they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying. Here is the list of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the Zealot), and Judas (son of James).

They agreed they were in this for good, completely together in prayer, the women included. Also Jesus' mother, Mary, and his brothers.

They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

They all met together continually for prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.

During this time, Peter stood up in the company--there were about one hundred twenty of them in the room at the time--

In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty)

And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), and said,

During this time, on a day when about 120 believers were present, Peter stood up and addressed them as follows:

and said, "Friends, long ago the Holy Spirit spoke through David regarding Judas, who became the guide to those who arrested Jesus. That Scripture had to be fulfilled, and now has been.

and said, "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus--

"Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus;

"Brothers, it was necessary for the Scriptures to be fulfilled concerning Judas, who guided the Temple police to arrest Jesus. This was predicted long ago by the Holy Spirit, speaking through King David.

Judas was one of us and had his assigned place in this ministry.

"As you know, he took the evil bribe money and bought a small farm. There he came to a bad end, rupturing his belly and spilling his guts.

(With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out.

(Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out.

Everybody in Jerusalem knows this by now; they call the place Murder Meadow.

Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.)

The news of his death spread rapidly among all the people of Jerusalem, and they gave the place the Aramaic name Akeldama, which means "Field of Blood.")

Acts.1.20

It's exactly what we find written in the Psalms: Let his farm become haunted So no one can ever live there. "And also what was written later: Let someone else take over his post.

"For," said Peter, "it is written in the book of Psalms, "'May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,' and, "'May another take his place of leadership.'

"For it is written in the Book of Psalms: "Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it'; and, "Let another take his office.'

Peter continued, "This was predicted in the book of Psalms, where it says, 'Let his home become desolate, with no one living in it.' And again, 'Let his position be given to someone else.'

"Judas must now be replaced. The replacement must come from the company of men who stayed together with us

Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

"So now we must choose another man to take Judas's place. It must be someone who has been with us all the time that we were with the Lord Jesus--

from the time Jesus was baptized by John up to the day of his ascension, designated along with us as a witness to his resurrection."

beginning from John's baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection."
