Solomon son of David took a firm grip on the reins of his kingdom. GOD was with him and gave him much help.

Solomon son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the LORD his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.

Now Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and exalted him exceedingly.

Solomon, the son of King David, now took firm control of the kingdom, for the LORD his God was with him and made him very powerful.

Solomon addressed all Israel--the commanders and captains, the judges, every leader, and all the heads of families.

Then Solomon and the entire company went to the worship center at Gibeon--that's where the Tent of Meeting of God was, the one that Moses the servant of GOD had made in the wilderness.

and Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at Gibeon, for God's Tent of Meeting was there, which Moses the LORD's servant had made in the desert.

Then Solomon, and all the assembly with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for the tabernacle of meeting with God was there, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.

Then Solomon led the entire assembly to the hill at Gibeon where God's Tabernacle was located. This was the Tabernacle that Moses, the LORD's servant, had constructed in the wilderness.

The Chest of God, though, was in Jerusalem--David had brought it up from Kiriath Jearim, prepared a special place for it, and pitched a tent for it.

But the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of Uri and grandson of Hur was still at Gibeon in front of the Tabernacle of the LORD. So Solomon and the people gathered in front of it to consult the LORD.

Solomon worshiped GOD at the Bronze Altar in front of the Tent of Meeting; he sacrificed a thousand Whole-Burnt-Offerings on it.

That night God appeared to Solomon. God said, "What do you want from me? Ask."

Solomon answered, "You were extravagantly generous with David my father, and now you have made me king in his place.

And Solomon said to God: "You have shown great mercy to David my father, and have made me king in his place.

Solomon replied to God, "You have been so faithful and kind to my father, David, and now you have made me king in his place.

Establish, GOD, the words you spoke to my father, for you've given me a staggering task, ruling this mob of people.

Now, LORD God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth.

Yes, give me wisdom and knowledge as I come and go among this people--for who on his own is capable of leading these, your glorious people?"

Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?"

Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?"

Give me wisdom and knowledge to rule them properly, for who is able to govern this great nation of yours?"

God answered Solomon, "This is what has come out of your heart: You didn't grasp for money, wealth, fame, and the doom of your enemies; you didn't even ask for a long life. You asked for wisdom and knowledge so you could govern well my people over whom I've made you king.

God said to Solomon, "Since this is your heart's desire and you have not asked for wealth, riches or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king,

Then God said to Solomon: "Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life--but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king--

God said to Solomon, "Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for personal wealth and honor or the death of your enemies or even a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people,

Because of this, you get what you asked for--wisdom and knowledge. And I'm presenting you the rest as a bonus--money, wealth, and fame beyond anything the kings before or after you had or will have."

therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have."

Then Solomon left the worship center at Gibeon and the Tent of Meeting and went to Jerusalem. He set to work as king of Israel.

Solomon built up a huge military force, which included fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horses. He stationed many of them in the chariot cities, and some near him in Jerusalem.

The king made silver and gold as common as rocks, and cedar as common as the fig trees in the lowland hills.

When you have something against another Christian, why do you file a lawsuit and ask a secular court to decide the matter, instead of taking it to other Christians to decide who is right?

The day is coming when the world is going to stand before a jury made up of Christians. If someday you are going to rule on the world's fate, wouldn't it be a good idea to practice on some of these smaller cases?

Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?

Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

Don't you know that someday we Christians are going to judge the world? And since you are going to judge the world, can't you decide these little things among yourselves?

Why, we're even going to judge angels! So why not these everyday affairs?

Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

Don't you realize that we Christians will judge angels? So you should surely be able to resolve ordinary disagreements here on earth.

As these disagreements and wrongs surface, why would you ever entrust them to the judgment of people you don't trust in any other way?

Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church!

If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge?

If you have legal disputes about such matters, why do you go to outside judges who are not respected by the church?

I say this as bluntly as I can to wake you up to the stupidity of what you're doing. Is it possible that there isn't one levelheaded person among you who can make fair decisions when disagreements and disputes come up? I don't believe it.

I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?

I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren?

I am saying this to shame you. Isn't there anyone in all the church who is wise enough to decide these arguments?

And here you are taking each other to court before people who don't even believe in God! How can they render justice if they don't believe in the God of justice?

But instead, one brother goes to law against another--and this in front of unbelievers!

These court cases are an ugly blot on your community. Wouldn't it be far better to just take it, to let yourselves be wronged and forget it?

The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?

Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated?

To have such lawsuits at all is a real defeat for you. Why not just accept the injustice and leave it at that? Why not let yourselves be cheated?

All you're doing is providing fuel for more wrong, more injustice, bringing more hurt to the people of your own spiritual family.

They walk all over your people, GOD, exploit and abuse your precious people.

They take out anyone who gets in their way; if they can't use them, they kill them.

They think, "GOD isn't looking, Jacob's God is out to lunch."

Yet they say, "The LORD does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob understand."

"The LORD isn't looking," they say, "and besides, the God of Israel doesn't care."

Well, think again, you idiots, fools--how long before you get smart?

Take heed, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise?

He punishes the nations--won't he also punish you? He knows everything--doesn't he also know what you are doing?

GOD knows, all right--knows your stupidity, sees your shallowness.

The LORD knows the thoughts of man; he knows that they are futile.
