But for right now, friends, I'm completely frustrated by your unspiritual dealings with each other and with God. You're acting like infants in relation to Christ,

Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn't talk to you as I would to mature Christians. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in the Christian life.

capable of nothing much more than nursing at the breast. Well, then, I'll nurse you since you don't seem capable of anything more.

I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.

You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?

for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

for you are still controlled by your own sinful desires. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn't that prove you are controlled by your own desires? You are acting like people who don't belong to the Lord.

When one of you says, "I'm on Paul's side," and another says, "I'm for Apollos," aren't you being totally infantile?

For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men?

For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not carnal?

When one of you says, "I am a follower of Paul," and another says, "I prefer Apollos," aren't you acting like those who are not Christians?

Who do you think Paul is, anyway? Or Apollos, for that matter? Servants, both of us--servants who waited on you as you gradually learned to entrust your lives to our mutual Master. We each carried out our servant assignment.

What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe--as the Lord has assigned to each his task.

Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one?

Who is Apollos, and who is Paul, that we should be the cause of such quarrels? Why, we're only servants. Through us God caused you to believe. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us.

I planted the seed, Apollos watered the plants, but God made you grow.

The ones who do the planting or watering aren't important, but God is important because he is the one who makes the seed grow.

Planting and watering are menial servant jobs at minimum wages.

The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.

The one who plants and the one who waters work as a team with the same purpose. Yet they will be rewarded individually, according to their own hard work.

What makes them worth doing is the God we are serving. You happen to be God's field in which we are working. Or, to put it another way, you are God's house.

Using the gift God gave me as a good architect, I designed blueprints; Apollos is putting up the walls. Let each carpenter who comes on the job take care to build on the foundation!

By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds.

Eventually there is going to be an inspection. If you use cheap or inferior materials, you'll be found out. The inspection will be thorough and rigorous. You won't get by with a thing.

his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.

But there is going to come a time of testing at the judgment day to see what kind of work each builder has done. Everyone's work will be put through the fire to see whether or not it keeps its value.

If your work passes inspection, fine;

No one will get by with vandalizing God's temple, you can be sure of that. God's temple is sacred--and you, remember, are the temple.

Don't fool yourself. Don't think that you can be wise merely by being up-to-date with the times.

Stop fooling yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world's standards, you will have to become a fool so you can become wise by God's standards.

Be God's fool--that's the path to true wisdom. What the world calls smart, God calls stupid. It's written in Scripture, He exposes the chicanery of the chic.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness";

I don't want to hear any of you bragging about yourself or anyone else. Everything is already yours as a gift--
